Pub Golf next Wed (the 25th nov)

So its about time we had another social so PUB GOLF IT IS!!

and why the title “BECAUSE WE HAVE BALLS” ? because we do!! 150 custom “Napier Snowsports” golf balls….. and that is no lie!!!

So bust out you best golfing clothing and kiddys clubs and lets get on it hard! we’re going to do it proper with score cards and everything so lets make it a big one! if you aint signed up to the club yet you can still come along and bring your mates too, the more people on it the more fun its going to be!!

There is also going to be prizes for the best dressed aswell as spot prizes on the way round!! spread the word and lets make this a wicked one before exams start!!!

SUDs and BUDs Results YO!!!

Ok so its been a crazy busy couple of weeks up here with SUDs and BUDs going on, so here is a quick e mail to let you all know how they went and how NUSC got on!

So SUDs (Scottish University DrySlope champs) came up first and the sun was a shining for it up at thee almighty Hillend! First up was the Male Ski GS, the fastest race of the day!! We had the might of Ali Beatie, Erik “I’ve got a girlfried” Esson” and our new secret weapon, Callum Henderson. With some heroic efforts from the lads Callum set an incredible time and was sitting in first place until the very last man left the start gates! So second place for Napier in the GS, well done guys!

Next up was the Female GS with Kirsty “Barely Legal” Hope, Kirsty MacIntyre and Carla Gardiner. With two of them making the top 8 it was Carla Gardiner who took home our first Gold of the day!

The Snowboard GS was up next and with a terrifyingly fast course compared to previous year! We had a heap of first time racers to add to our team this year that did amazingly well! Amy Heart, David Gordon, James Fortune, Amy MacFarlane and Ian Dawson had never raced before but there is whole pile of potential here for future years! As well as them we as our older racers Paul Norman, Tom Akass, Matt “Sparrow” Higginson and Carla McGlynn. The results ended up being Carla McGlynn in 2nd place for the girls and then Sparrow 2nd and Tom Akass 1st in the dudes making it a Napier 1-2 in the boarding. They followed this up by coming 2nd and 3rd in the Slalom too!

On the freestyle side of things Napiers own Cammy Nicol came 3rd in the Ski Slopestyle and in the Ski Big Air with some sick switch 7’s. On the snowboard side of things it was our new rider Amy MacFarlane taking 3rd in the Big Air and the Slopestyle and Ben Venn taking 2nd in the Big Air with some “phat” misty 7’s.

So fantastic weekend and massive thank you the SUSC guys for organising the event. NUSC ended up coming 2nd in the overall points to Edinburgh Uni with only 1 point separating them!! Next year its ours!

BUDs was up the weekend after and with all the big British Uni’s showing up including all the big ones like New Castle and Bristol! Carla Gardier won the Gs for the girls and was then 3rd in some other ski event. Calum Henderson was rocked it again for the dudes ski with a well earned 3rd, next year its his for sure!

Snowboard wise it was Tom Akass who took the win for napier in the GS, with less than 0.04 seconds separating the top 3!! Carla McGlynn took the 3rd in the chicks. In the Boarder-X, Tom Akass took 3rd missing out to last years BUDs and BUSC winners. Carla McGlynn couldn’t continue her 4th BUDs Xoarder X win and had to settle for 2nd however, she did beat Ivy Taylor (UK Boarder X Team) so a big BOOOOYA to that!

Cammy Nicol rocked the freestyle ski side of things taking 3rd in the Big Air and the slopestyle!

So now for the best news of the two weekends and a big shock to every Uni in Britain. Napier, the small Scottish Uni that not many people would consider in the contention for even the top 10 for the overall Uni title came 2nd!!!! Might not sound like a big deal but this is an unbelievable result for us and (literally, I didn’t believe it when I found out!!) So well done guys and roll on the indoor comps and the Aberdeen invitational in the New Year!

Almost time for SUDs and BUDs

Bonjourno!

Hey guys hows it all going? hope your all good and uni aint taking up too much of your time, i know its eating far to much of mine!! So just a few up dates about what is going on and whats been going on and whats coming up in the next few weeks….

Hoodies!
Are getting printed as week speak and should be here before SUDs. They are going to look AMAZING! Keep an eye out on facebook for when they arrive…..

Holiday
Is filling fast as! I know a lot of the older members leave it a little later to book etc but you are been warned now, DON’T LEAVE IT TOO LATE otherwise face the a fate that no one deserves, having to sit at home knowing that we’re all out shredding Pow Pow while your stuck here! :P So get your deposits in now while you have they money!

Lessons!
Massive thanks to Kirsty for sorting all this out, sounds easy but trust me took some organizing! Had two groups of snowboarders and one group of skiers on Monday night which was a real laugh and everyone improved heaps! Bit ogf hick-up this coming week though as the Sub Aqua club have booked out the mini buses before us so unfortunately it going to be good old Lothian Bus this week people. Kirsty is going to send out and e mail about it though so we can all meet at union and head up together! :D
One there thing about the lessons is that Kirsty had to pre-pay for the lessons out of her own pocket so if anyone didn’t show up on the first week when you said you were please make sure you pay up cos its not fair other wise!

They happen on the first two weekends in Nov and are best banter ever! there are epic parties for both weekends so even if you not a competitor then please come just for the support, banter and the party!!!

The 2009-2010 Season!

Ok so the site is finally back up and running!! so not all of it maybe fully updated but you can book the holiday through it!

We had our first trip up Hillend last night which was radtastick! hope you all had an amazing time! Ordinary Allstars/Black Seeds gig after was also awesome!

Anyways, some of you guys have been using the snowsports@napier.ac.uk e mail account to try and contact us but we aren’t able to reply to these e mails! So if you use napiersnowsportsclub@hotmail.com then we will get back to you or put you on our mailing list!

Should be having another social next week where you can sign up to the club if you haven’t already and also we shall be giving out loads of free T-shirts……. LOADS!!!! like over 200 so more than enough for everyone!

AGM

BUISC!

Thanks to everyone who came over to buisc with us and made it a great day! (Dispite getting chucked out the bar!)

Congratulations are in order for Sam Laurie and Tom Akass who both came first in there events!

Everyone did really well and we had 10 people qualify to go through to the final rounds down in leeds on the 4th of march!

Granite City Invitational 2009

February 8, 2009 – 3:19 pm

Napier took a team up to the first ever Granite City Invitational on Saturday the 7th of Feb. The Competition was held at Aberdeen’s GarthDee Dry slope, there had been a few inches of snow fall, but not enough to cover the whole slope, so an interesting time was had by all. The first event was female individual duals, where Kirsty hope was knocked into 4th place by her older sister. Jenny Wilkie was unfortunately put out in the second round so no luck there. Next up was the guys, where an unfortunate Erik Esson (who’s lovely parents put up with us for the night) was drawn against Euan Maggee who raced an awesome event and went on to win overall. Chris Orriss and Cameron Black Had about as much luck and were put out in the first round.

Across on the Freestlye course Sam laurie was warming up with some crowd pleasing airial acrobatics only to have his evening cut short by a heavy slam from (I think) a massive 540, leaving him hobbling around and feeling a little worse for ware.
Following In Sams footprints Lori-jane Coates steps up to the kicker, goes big, catches an edge and procedes to slide the rest of the way down the slope on her chin, not feeling to great about herself.

Back to the racing, A travastey of a start from your captain Swayze, left him collapsing round the first and seccond gate putting him out in the first round, no such bad luck for both Matt (sparrow) Higginson and Tom Akass who powered their way to an all napier final resulting in tom first sparrow second. Good Lads.
Recovered from her chin scrapping Lori beasts her way through the first two rounds of Girl boarders, into a threeway final. Finishing second to a chick from Glasgow. Not Bad.

Team events were next and again no luck for the skiers Put out early on, finishing out of the top 4. The boarders on the other hand, showed some real class and after getting over his fear of start gates Swayze even managed to finish the course. The team dominated on such a level that sparrow even managed to cross the line in switch to make it a napier Victory.

All in all a great time was had by everyone competing even if the drive home was slightly more intense than originaly planned.

Hope to see everyone out on wednesday to support your club up at braehead busses leaving from the union, time TBC.

AVIEMORE WEEKEND AWAY!!

GET YOUR NAME ON THE LIST AT THE UNION!! £25!!

going to be held on the 13th and 14th of dec we are meeting at the union (with booze for the bus up) arriving at the hostel which will be booked out for NUSC and either having funtimes in the hostel or headgin out to aviemore pubs.

the cost will be 25 quid however the more people coming the less the price is! this includes transport, accomodation, petrol, food, and a selection of very fine beer (tennants) cider (stronbow) and exquisite vodka (smirnoff ice) :p

on the sunday we will be headging up le mountain for a bit o shredding before hitting the epic bus journey back to edinburgh

might be wise to pack a toga and glowpaint… just in case….

so put yer name down for this.. itl make you laugh, itl make you cry, itl change your life!! :p
